I'm 71, retired, like my PS3 and GT5 and 6. So I thought I would give this a whirl. Wow.....this is way beyond me.My best analogy would be if you drive a Prius as a grocery getter, and got a chance to go to LaGuna Seca to set a record lap in a McLarenF1 and were given the keys with no practice. You would not make it pass the first curve and if you were racing against F1 drivers, you would be an hour behind at the finish line. Now I am not taking away from the design, graphics, or anything else....they are first class. But I could race 24/7 and never pass anyone on the easiest entry level on the game.I have put it back in the case. When my 15 year old grandson super-gamer comes over I am going to let him try this and tell him he gets if he can pass anyone on the easiest setting. If he does he gets the money and the game to take home. If he does not he still gets the game to take home,If you are a wizard on PS3 race may be able to handle this. If you are not then go buy a Sega All Star game and "unleash your All Star moves". So now you know.....this game is for the best of the best; but it's not for Grampa. Follow up: My grandson PS3 wizard came over to try the game. He could not pass one vehicle in 5 tries on the new F1 cars. We went to the 1980's F1 cars. After three plays he finished next to last. His went down to ....and he just shook his head. But he now has a new game for his home collection.Prospective buyer: If you are not a "Class A" gamer, then this is not for you.My first time owning a game in this series by Codemasters. It is very accurate as far as visual details and they do a great job of simulating driving an F1 car, which I can say because...well I can't. I've never driven one! But, the car feels different on fresh tires vs worn vs old, when you're right behind a car in front and when you're not, etc and it's not a jump in difference, it's gradual and subtle until it really affects how you drive. The speed and braking is spot on and the sound affects of the gear changes is extremely fun, and useful information while changing down for corners. The camera angles are sweet and the tracks are recreated well. The rain simulation is fantastic and definitely changes things for the car. There is a bit of a learning curve to some of the finer points of setting up a car for a race. If you don't do this the car is almost un-drivable. I wish they'd show not just Parc Ferme after a race but the podium/trophy presentation. I play on a pad and I'm getting pretty good lap times.I really want to rate this a 5 star, but have only had the game a couple of days now. I started playing the CM F1 games at 2011 and IMO - F1 2011 was a hell of a game. 2012 was ok, and I feel like CM really picked up from 11 going into 13 well, while F1 2012 was more, 'eh'. I will say that I do not like being forced into having to do the drivers test once getting the game installed. I'm not sure if you can exit out of it as by that time I just said the f*** with it and went through it. On the flipside, I was pleasantly surprised I only had to do the 2nd day of the drivers test considering I'd already done the full drivers test in F1 2012. This was a nice touch by CM to allow the system to read your progression in past releases. All the set up options for my G27 are the same. It is the case of CM not making drastic changes to their GUI where long time fans know exactly where to go and how to navigate new releases. However, one of the changes CM made with 2013 is that there is no longer any explanation of what wheel saturation, linearity, dead zone etc is or does. For long time fans this isn't an issue, but can be confusing to the newcomer. In that, while CM keeps its loyal fan base in mind when developing new releases, they also need to make sure there is a reasonable barrier to entry for those new to the series. As I said, I've only had this game now for a couple of days. I've not started career mode or taken part in the GP yet. I've been spending my time in TT (time trial) mode getting used to the handling of the cars and going through setups. The cars I feel, handle very well. By that I mean its not easy per se, but closely resembles what I was used to in F1 2011. With TCS set to full, I find it odd the back wheels spin coming out of slow corners. In F1 2011 you could do the same thing by either turning the TCS option down or off completely. Aside from that I don't find the handling too much different than what I'm already used to.To say the handling is good in my opinion, doesn't mean its easy. To someone new it will take some getting used to and a lot of practice. Unlike most console/pc racers, the f1 series cars, much like their real world counterparts, don't make tight turns at high speeds and mashing the brake pedal. If you're used to games like Forza, Gran Turismo or any other racer, than F1 will take some getting used to. And its also my opinion, that b/c of this, this is what draws many F1 fans to the CM F1 series. The tracks also require at least some technicality, even with the racing line on.As for the graphics, they are better, but not game changing. 11 and 12 are also (STILL) good looking games. And before I forget to mention it, I really do like having DRS Zones in 13. Having the ability to only use it in prior releases being dependent on whether or not one was one second behind a competitor seemed useless, as there we're few opportunities to take advantage of it.The tracks are just as good looking as ever. And apparently there are a few new ones in both regular type races and classic mode. In closing, I may change my review in the next few weeks as I explore more of the game. But so far so good.***UPDATE***As an update to my prior/initial review, F1 2013 is still deserving of 4 stars. Contrary to my understanding of DRS Zones initially, you still must be within 1 second of the car in front of you to be able to use DRS. I started career mode and had to dial down the AI difficulty from medium to amateur as I was having a heck of a time in the first race and quali (Melbourne). Full weekend quali settings seem a bit exaggerated as I would prefer a good 20 minute quali and set up round before getting to the race and moving on to the next one. Car setups do make a difference and I would recommend getting used to the cars first before applying any advanced setups found on the net and or youtube. The basic setups the game offers are good enough for most beginners and or casual racers, however the more advanced setups, if you aren't adept enough at handling the cars, will have you slipping and sliding all over the place.I'm still enjoying this game, even moreso now that I've dialed down the AI difficulty to amateur and am using a mix of basic setups with minor tweaks of my own.If you want your racing game to be realistic this is your game. This is not easy, but a lot of fun for the racing enthusiast who wants to get an idea what it's like to drive a Formula One car. Also, this game has classic 80-ies F1 cars in it, that are also a lot of fun to try out. The only negative I can think of is that loading times are somewhat long, but I guess if you want a good looking and well playing game you have to give in on something. Codemaster is known for F1 game issues. 2012 and 2014 in the F1 series are fine the rest have many issues and it makes no difference on Xbox360 series. Again F1 2012 and F1 2014 are ok. From 2015 on who knows? Nice little game, works better with Logitech Driving Force GT, than F1 2012. Still just a game, driving seems a bit arcade, but that doesn't take the fun out of it. If you're into simulator-like games, it may disappoint you a bit.The historic cars, although fun, they are not very realistic performance wise. They feel like they have too much downforce. This turbo-era cars should be undriveable.Product was exactly as discribed and i received it in a very short period.Very difficult to play this game successfully even on easy mode, without a driving wheel.Otherwise the game is great!
