It is also very easy to use and produces excellent roasted beans. The temperature control is excellent which is important. The problem with it is no real instructions on how to roast the beans so I am going to give you that information. You will need a digital kitchen scale that can weigh in grams. You will need an infrared temperature, get a thermoworks with red circle laser for . A stop watch timer is a must have, use the one on your cell phone. You will also need a large sifter to drop the hot beans into. Toss them and catch to cool and release the bean skins. A full 18 oz solo cup of beans is a good start until you get familiar with the process. Suggest the largest roast to be 600 grams. When you get the machine turn the on/off switch on and leave it on because the knob is made of weak plastic and it will break so power it up by plugging it in. To roast set the temperature knob at 180, it will take 12 to 15 minutes to get the surface to 180. Lift the glass cover and shot the surface with the infrared starting at 12 minutes. When 180 degrees C is achieved drop the beans into the machine. At 20 minutes from bean dump start shooting the beans temp every 30 seconds until 180 degrees. Advance the temperature control to 240 degrees. After 12 minutes start shooting the beans temperature every 30 seconds until 195 degrees is achieved, about 35 minutes from bean drop. Unplug machine, remove cover and pour the hot beans into the sifter. Toss up and catch in a breeze to cool and allow the paper thin skins to float away. This procedure will get you an excellent medium roast that will be 10 times better than Grocery store coffee. The media could not be loaded. I did three 1/2lbs roasts with this and I really wanted it to work, especially after reading reviews.I’m a manual whirlybird corn popper user for a year and I really wanted this to replace my old manual ways. I roast Colombian, Papua New Guinea and African beans. My problem is the motor driving unit is loose and moves almost 1/8” off axis and Coffee beens get caught underneath rotating arm and on the edge of the arm to the edge of the hot plate.I contacted seller and will update review based on response.I’ve been roasting for about 5 years with a SS whirley pops. Lately the gears on the last few whirley pop kettles have been terrible quality and quite frankly frustrating. I looked for a roaster that could handle at least 1 pound per batch. This roaster claims it’ll handle 800 grams. I haven’t roasted that much yet. So far I’ve roasted about 10 batches, 500 grams per batch. Regardless of the coffee origin, plan on 40 to 42 minutes per batch. Very happy with the results, Combine roasting with other tasks around the house, set my watch for 35 minutes, come back to roasting and turn off the roaster for the exact darkness I’m looking for. The glass cover takes away any guessing. Clean up is easy, very happy with the purchase.I have completed three roasting sessions so far, and although there were some initial quality issues with the on/off switch (not placed correctly with the labels icons), I have been pleased with the product. Roast times are quite long though, so be prepared to wait for over an hour to complete (it’s is a good thing that the smells are great). I do recommend a pre-heat cycle before adding the beans. I need to see how this unit does on the dark roasts, since so far I have only Light to City roast levels. Also, there is some “slop” with the hub when cold, but this appears to tighten up when in use. I don’t think this is an issue, but as stated earlier, I have only used it for three roasts (500 gr/batch).Came with missing parts and was obviously returned by someone else before me. Obviously I couldn’t use it because it wasn’t even complete but the whole thing feels cheap and janky. It didn’t even come in a proper box. Was a complete waste of time. The coffee beans come out unevenly roasted. If you're aiming for medium-dark, you'll end up with about 1/4 dark, 1/4 medium, and 1/2 medium-dark. A year and a half ago I bought the JIAWANSHUN 500g roaster, and was quite pleased with it even though it had a smaller capacity. Overall the Jiawanshun 500g produced better coffee.I bought their smaller roaster a few months before this one, that is now my back up. This one I have been using since June of this year and it has been performing great. I roast 700 grams at least one a week....yes I drink a lot of espresso. I cannot say enough good about it. I do have a metered thermometer I use by placing it down one of the 2 vent holes and letting it drag thru the great. I preheat to 180c and then set up to 240c but pull the beans at 210c.... Btw I would recommend one of their coolers as well.... Helps a lot..Just finished roasting 1 lbs of coffee at 240 degrees for 32 mins. The the coffee looked even and great. Compared to the roasted coffee I brought from the store, it was very similar. 5 stars for now. Will update the rating after I spend more time with the roaster
